More than 50 experts debate the role of legumes in agriculture and food

Last week was inaugurated the ceiA3's Scientific  - Technical Workshop and the Spanish Association of Legumes (AEL) 6th Seminar on Legumes in Agriculture and Food at the University of Cordoba. This takes part of the call for events of the ceiA3's promotion of agrifood innovation. 

Jose Carlos Gomez Villamandos, rector of Universtity of Cordoba and president of ceiA3, inaugurated the ceiA3`s scientific - technical workshop and AEL's 6th Seminar on Legumes in Agriculture and Food. Other participants include Enrique Quesada Moraga, vice-chancellor of Territorial Research and Development of the University of Cordoba and general coordinator of ceiA3; Jerónimo Pérez Parra, president of the Andalusian Institute of Agricultural and Fisheries Research and Training (IFAPA); Alfonso Clemente, president of the Spanish Association of Legumes; and Teresa Millan, president of the Organizing Committee of the Day. 

Villamandos affirmed that it is very important to speak "not only of transfer, but of circulation of knowledge" and that this congress could be an opportunity for this happen. He added: "Precisely the University of Cordoba is an agrifood university because agrifood is a well - researched area in here and events like this are held". Additionally, he pointed out that ceiA3 - led by the University of Cordoba - complies what a 21 se century university and Campus should be when promoting this type of congress. 

As for Enrique Quesada Moraga, he assured that the multidisciplinary nature of this day - with the participation of UCO and IFAPA reserche groups attached to the Agrifood Campus of International Excellence ceiA3 are included in this area of Knowledge".

Jeronimo Perez Parra highlighted the effort that IFAPA, in coordination with the University of Cordoba and the Spanish Association of Legumes, is making to improve the yield and quality of the legumes. This trend is expected to continue and is supported by the Junta de Andalucía and CAP (Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union).

During his speech, Alfonso Clemente revealed that Cordoba is a relevant place for the congress because of the collaboration in the field of legumes between the University of Cordoba, IFAPA and the Institute for Sustainable Agriculture - CSIC. Also, he wanted to highlight the support provided by the ceiA3 for the celebration of this activity, which takes place every three years. Teresa Millan, who is a also researcher of the group attached to ceiA3 AGR-114 Plant Genetic Improvement (UCO) wanted to thank ceiA3 for its support as well. 

This workshop took place from 22 nd to 23 rd October 2018 within the framework of the call Aid for the promotion of agrifood innovation through ceiA3's organization of events, financed by the Junta de Andalucía's Strategic Plan of Culture.
